Enrolling to Vote
Enrolling to Vote - the importance of checking
Having the right to vote is something that people the world over lay down their lives for. Here in New Zealand it is so easy. To vote in the General Election later this year, all you have to do is make sure that you are enrolled. If you are not sure whether you are or not, here is a simple checklist.
Did you receive a letter from the Electoral Enrolment Centre recently asking you to check your details? The envelope had the ‘orange man' on it.
If you did receive the letter, it asked you to check your details. You only had to reply if anything had changed.
If you didn't receive that envelope, it probably means you need to check that you are enrolled to vote.
There are several ways to do this:
Online
You can check your details online at www.elections.org.nz
Telephone
You can phone free on 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56)
Text
Free text your name and address to 3676 and you will get an enrolment form posted out to you.
Fill in a Form
You can download the enrolment form from www.elections.org.nz
Or you can pick up an enrolment form your nearest NZ PostShop which you can fill in and leave at the counter or send back freepost.
Contact the NDU
You can contact your local NDU office. We have enrolment forms and would be happy to send you one or bring one round. We will even collect it!
If you are enrolled to vote, it is really important that you check the enrolment status of everyone else in your family over the age of 18. If they are not enrolled to vote, they won't be able to vote on Election Day. Another thing you might do is check whether your friends and family living overseas are enrolled to vote.
