About the NDU
The National Distribution Union is one of the biggest private sector unions in New Zealand with a membership of over 20,000.
We are made up of four sectors, and have members in many different industries. Most of our membership is concentrated in the North Island, which is reflected in our branch office locations. We are affiliated to the NZ Council of Trade Unions and we are also affiliated to international organisations through our sectors.
We have a National Executive that governs the union, made up of regional and sector representatives. The National Executive has elected representatives made up of regional and sector representatives, and about half are rank and file members.
Our National Secretary, National President, Regional Secretaries and Sector Secretaries are responsible for the day-to-day running of the union and carrying out national executive decisions and union policy.
As well as our organising and administration staff we have a staff lawyer, a publicity officer, and education officers. The recently established Growth Unit has a team of five organisers who are dedicated to recruitment.
Our union knows that active delegates are vital in all decision making levels of our union and there are steps you can take to further your involvement.
